Shorinin Temple belong to the Tendai sect of Buddhism.
This temple was founded in 1013 by priest Jakugen as a place to practice "Shomyo".
Priest Jakugen was a disciple of Preist En-nin.This temple later became the center for the learning of Tendai-style Shomyo.
This temple is also a famous place for the "Ohara Mondo" (Disccussion at Ohara between Preist Honen and Preist Kenshin).
Preist Honen was the founder of Jodo sect of Buddhism.
Preist Kenshin was a priest of the Tendai sect.
