Higashi-Honganji

This temple is Head Temple of the Otani Branchi of the Jodo-Shin sect of the Buddhism.
Nishi and Higashi-Honganji Temple were originally parts of one whole.
Ieyasu Tokugawa worried about their great religious power,
and Nishi and Higashi-Honganji were separated by Ieyasu Tokugawa in 1602.
The Goei-do Hall enclosing an space equal to 927 tatami mats is one of the biggest wooden architectures in the world.
