This shrine was originally founded by Emperor Kanmu, when he moved the nation's capital from Nara to Nagoaka in 784.
In 850, the main hall was built and Koisawanoike pond was created.
Today, the pond is known as a pond of the water lily.
Koisawanoike Pond was modeled after Sarusawanoike Pond in Nara.
Oharano Jinja Shrine is especially lovely in spring, during cherry blossom season, and fall, when the leaves change.
