Kuginuki Jizo

The formal name of this temple is "Shakuzoji Temple". This temple belong to the Jodo sect of the Buddhism. It is also known as "Kuginuki Jizo".
It is said that this temple was founded by the priest Kukai. It originally belonged to the Shingon sect of Buddhism but later switched to the Jodo sect when it was restored by the monk Chogen.
The statue of Jizo Bodhisattva is enshrined in the Jizodo hall. Original name of the statue is “Kunuki Jizo” (pain-soothing Jizo). Later it is called as "Kuginuki Jizo".
