This is one of the sub-temples of the Daitokuji Temple.
It is also the head temple of the North School of Daitokuji.
Daitokuji Temple was founded in 1509 by Kogaku-Soko.
The main hall (called Hojo) is the Building that has remained since time of establishment.
It is one of the oldest in Japan as building of Hojo.
And it is designated as an Important Cultural Asset.
The garden is renowned as fine example of "Karesansui (the dry landscapte gardens)" from the Muromachi period.
It is designated as a historic site and a special place of scenery by the government.
