This temple belong to the Tendai sect of the Buddhism. The formal name of this temple is Reiyusan Gyoganji. It was built in 1004 by the The monk Gyoen.
The monk Gyoen was known as Kawano-hijiri (the leather monk) due to his habit of wearing the skin. And this temple is popularly known as Koudo (the leather temple).
Homotsukan hall in this temple has exhibit of The Yurei Ema, a votive picture of horse depicting the ghost of a young woman.
