Umekoji Steam Locomotive Preservation Hall

This museum was established in 1972 for the 100th anniversary of the arrival of the railway in Japan.

The locomotive 'SL Steam' is operated 3 times a day.

The exhibition hall was transferred from building of Nijo Station in 1997.

It has exhibits of art works and treasures from local temples and shrines.

Kyoto National Museum

Kyoto National Museum was established in 1895 as an imperial repository for art and treasures from local temples and shrines.

It has exhibits of art works and treasures from local temples and shrines.

The Exhibition Hall displays selected items from roughly 12000 fine art works and cultural properties in the museum collection or entrusted to the museum.

This memorial hall was the house of the late kawai kanjiro (world famous potter)

Kawai Kanjiro Memorial Hall

Kawai Kanjiro Memorial Hall was opened in 1973.
This memorial hall was the house of the late kawai kanjiro. (1890-1966, world famous potter)
This hall has exhibits of his work and his collection.

Rakuto Museum

This museum was opened in 1974.
The museum was the house of a rich merchant family Kashiwabara in Edo period.
This museum has exhibits of wedding costume furniture and old documents.

The Museum of Kyoto

This museum has exhibits of long history and culture of Kyoto.

The regular exhibits are the Fine Arts and Crafts Gallery, the Movie Hall and the Movie Gallery.

This red brick building show a fusion of Kyoto tradition and western culture.
Originally built in Meiji period as The Kyoto Branch of Bank of Japan.
This building is designated as Important Cultural Property.

Kitamura Museum

This musium is established in 1977.

It has exhibits of tea ceremony utensils, collected by the modern tea aesthete, Kitamura Kinjiro.

Shotenkaku Museum

Shotenkaku Museum was built in1984.

This museum has exhibits of treasures and arts of Shokokuji Temple and sub-temple.

It contains paintings on the walls by Ito Jakuchu and paintings on the sliding doors by Hasegawa Tohaku.
They are renowned as fine examples of painting from Zen culture.

Orinasu Museum

"Orinasu Museum" was established in 1989.
This museum is housed in a weaving factory of Nishijin.
It has exhibits of fine example of Nishijin textiles.
A factory of this museum is open to the public to demonstrate the process of weaving.

Kyoto Archaeological Museum

Archaeological materials in each age discovered by the excavation investigation of the Kyoto city have been exhibited in this museum.

Kyoto Archaeological Museum

This museum was established on November 28, 1979.
This building is the one originally built up as Nishijin textile center in 1915.

Archaeological materials in each age discovered by the excavation investigation of the Kyoto city have been exhibited in this museum.

And explanations of the photograph and the illustration are very useful for understanding of archaeological materials.

Hakusasonsou

This is the former villa of painter Kansetsu Hashimoto (1883-1945)

Hakusasonsou

This is the former villa of painter Kansetsu Hashimoto (1883-1945).
The garden was designed by Kansetsu himself.

The main hall, which looks out on the garden, was kansetu's painting studio.
His paintings are on display in this hall.

His art style is wide of having taken both the style of traditional China and styles of Japan.
You would also enjoy seeing the garden in this villa, as it incorporates the "shakkei" (the borrowed view garden) style.

This museum has exhibits of contemporary art by Japanese and foreign artists

Kyoto National Museum of Modern Art

The Kyoto National Museum of Modern Art was established in 1963 as an annex of the Tokyo National Museum of Modern Art.
This museum has exhibits of contemporary art by Japanese and foreign artists.

A building modern now was rebuilt in 1986.

Kyoto Municipal Museum of Art - Annex

The collection is a Japanese style painting, a western-style painting, and a craft work from the Meiji era to present.

Kyoto Municipal Museum of Art - Annex

Kyoto Municipal Museum of Art opened a library in 1933.
The main building was designed by Kenjiro Maeda.
A library was opened secondarily in Japan as a public museum after Tokyo Metropolitan Art Gallery.

The permanent exhibition with an original collection besides the public advertisement exhibition is held.

The collection is a Japanese style painting, a western-style painting, and a craft work from the Meiji era to present.

The Gekkeikan Okura Sake Museum introduces you to the facinating history of sake brewing with its nostalgic buildings

The Gekkeikan Okura Sake Museum

The Gekkeikan Okura Sake Museum introduces you to the facinating history of sake brewing with its nostalgic buildings, tasting experience, and valuable collection of traditional brewing tools. From among the 6,120 brewing tools designated by Kyoto City as folk craft cultural assets, some of the most representative items used in the various stages of the brewing process are on display here. While enjoying the exhibits, you can hear recordings of traditional sake brewing songs sung by brewers of bygone days. Here is faithfully reproduced the atmosphere of an old sake brewery.

The history of the Uji tea can be plainly understood.

Kanbayashi memorial Hall

A splendid gate where it had faced the shopping street was built at Genroku Era.
It is tea manufacture industry Kanbashiya's residence in Edo period. General is open to the public now as the memorial of tea.

The Kanbashi family was supplying tea to the shogunate and the court. The old document concerning Sen'norikyu and Enshu Kobori and the tool of tea have been exhibited in this memorial.
Moreover, the history of the Uji tea can be plainly understood.

The Asahi Pottery Gallery

Asahi Pottery appeared 400 years ago.
The position as the earthenware used for tea ceremony has been established since then.

It studied under Enshu Kobori at the second generation.
And, it was told as one of the seven excellent kilns that study under Enshu.

The Asahi Pottery Gallery has exhibits of work from generation to generation.

Moreover, there is a tea ceremony room.
And, there are a ceramic art classroom of a day and an exhibition sales, too.
