This temple was founded in 991. The main image in this temple is a statue of Jizo Bosatsu.
The Main Hall was destroyed by fire in 1962 and rebuilt in 1970.
In 1300, Enkaku Shonin created a pantomime, called Mibu Kyogen, to express teachings of Buddha.
The play became very popular, and is now registered as an Important Intangible Folk-Cultural Propery.
