Yasaka jinja

This shrine was founded in the 9th century.
It was originally named Gion Jinja.
Many people visit this shrine and pray for good fortune on New Year's Day.
The orange west gate is designated as Important Cultural Property.
"Gion-matsuri" is the festival of this shrine.
"Gion-matsuri" originates from the heian Era as a ceremony to ask a deity to end a plague.
