For Gion Shinbashi, it is specified for "Traditional building preservation district".
The history goes back 300 years ago.
The road was made from Sanmon-Gate in Chion-in Temple to the west for Nawate-dori in Edo period.
Six towns in Gion were made sideward of the road.
At this time, it spans with a bridge the downstream of Shirakawa, and it comes to be called Shinbashi.
A still traditional town remains in Gion Shinbashi.
